As a child, he attended the Long Beach Grand Prix in California every spring with his dad, Jim. This, along with an interest in crime stories, served as inspiration for The Monte Carlo Hustle, which is about a robbery that goes awry in Monaco during the Grand Prix. His influences run the gamut from books to movies to television to general observation about day-to-day life.
