In 2010, Fred Wilson discussed an important but often overlooked question at his blog AVC: what does a CEO do? His jumping off point was the answer one of Fred's mentors gave to that question over thirty years ago:

"A CEO does only three things. Sets the overall vision and strategy of the company and communicates it to all stakeholders. Recruits, hires and retains the very best talent for the company. Makes sure there is always enough cash in the bank."
