Seven months ago, my dad died.
Seven seconds ago my mom said “I do” to her new husband and now my stepfather.
Seven seconds ago, my new stepbrother glared at me over his father's shoulder. Hate is all I can see in his eyes.
He’s already given me a taste of what his hatred does.

I can't help but stare at her. Stare at her beauty. Her evergreen eyes brewing a storm of fear and confusion as she stares back at me.
