The collection was inspired by the author's great grandmother who was born and raised in the British Virgin Islands and moved to the US Virgin Islands as a teenager. "This book started out being a collection of the proverbs & expressions she would tell me as a child growing up in St. Thomas - expressions that she used very matter-of-factly in every day conversation. I understood them then, but not the true importance of them until much later in life. After reaching out to family and friends, they started sharing the proverbs and expressions that were dear to them as well and the collection became much more."
