Emily is born into a life of love, privilege and ease. She is adored by all, especially Ruby, one of the housemaids.
Not only are Ruby’s parents well to do, but they are also kind, fair, and not afraid to stand up for what’s right. However, this causes their downfall when one of London’s worst criminals cross their paths.
Life quickly and brutally turns on this family, and Emily is orphaned, homeless and in danger. Her only saving grace is Ruby, who tries to keep her safe by pretending that Emily is her child. But life is nothing like it was before, and Emily gets to know hardship in a way she was never supposed to encounter.
