Genoveva Edroza Matute was married at the age of thirty nine to Epifanio Matute, a newspaper writer. Mr and Mrs Matute loved children but wasn't blessed to have even one.

When Mrs Matute's husband died, she lived alone in Cubao editing and writing her works. Only her nieces, grandchildren and great grandchildren were her only 'family' left. During events and special occasions, her grandchildren visits her with their own children (her great grandchildren) where one can truly see the happiness in her eyes for having company at home and to be able to cheer her up.

Though she was able to tour the world, her last trip was in Cagayan de Oro City from her own homeland where she decided to take her nieces to visit one of her grandsons who settled in the City. She was able to visit the city's tourist spots like Eco Village and the Del Monte Plantation.

By the time Mrs Matute started to get weak, three of her nieces alternatively took care of her on their decided schedule. Still grandchildren and great grandchildren continued to visit her as well as the people from the Press for interviews and researches.

On March 21, 2009, one of her nieces, a known English teacher, Teresita Bobis, planned to celebrate her birthday at Mrs. Matute's house and gather her side of the family to have another family bonding. All were ready except Mrs Matute who was in deep sleep in the afternoon. When Teresita woke her up to change her clothes before her visitors arrive, it was found out that Mrs Matute was not only in deep sleep, but was already resting in peace.
