Jason Ayres spends his days writing humorous novels with science fiction elements, including time travel and alternate realities.

He decided to leave behind a stable career in market research to risk all in pursuit of his long-term love of writing back in the 2000s. After writing for several publications, most notably the Oxford Mail, he turned his hand to writing novels. The first of these, The Time Bubble, was released in 2014. The subsequent series now stretches to over a dozen volumes, exploring time travel in a variety of innovative ways. These include travelling both forwards and backwards, exploring changes in the timeline via the multiverse, and offering people second chances in life. Although most of the books can be read standalone, they are all interlinked so characters from one story often pop up in another.

In 2024, he launched a new venture, an anthology series exploring life in the 1980s. The first of these, 1980: A Year in the Life of Keith Diamond was released in January, with two more to follow later in the year.

He has yet to win the Booker Prize but did achieve fame back in 2013 when the title of Britain's Official Sausage Taster was bestowed upon him. After sampling some 300 sausages, he got to choose the winners at the prestigious British Sausage Week awards alongside celebrity chef, Simon Rimmer.
